Scramble

The Lunar Transport Reynolds and its crew are missing. The last contact was a distress signal. Now Ron Ward and the Third Squad of the Outer Watch are on a desperate rescue mission.

But the moon is a harsh environment; one mistake can prove fatal. Will there even be anyone left to save?

Hurry kills. That’s what the Academy taught Ron. But hurrying is all Ron wants to do. His adrenaline is full blast. The crew of the Reynolds is trapped without transportation. They’re severely injured. Or worse. Every second counts.

Scramble brings you inside the Jacob Evans during a tense evening on Duty Watch. You’ll meet the unsung heroes of the Third Squad, feel the fear in the air, smell the stench of sweat on consoles, and struggle to keep your heart rate stable as you race towards the crash site.

Martin L. Shoemaker crafts a tale that grabs you by the throat from the very first page and doesn’t let up until you’re gasping for air at the end. Scramble is the riveting story that won second place in the 2012 Jim Baen Memorial Writing Contest and was awarded honorable mention in the Writers of the Future, Quarter 3, 2011.

About the Author
Martin L. Shoemaker

Martin L. Shoemaker is a programmer who writes on the side... or maybe it's the other way around. He told stories to imaginary friends and learned to type on his brother's manual typewriter even though he couldn't reach the keys. (He types with the keyboard in his lap still today.) He couldn't imagine any career but writing fiction... until his algebra teacher said, "This is a program. You should write one of these."
